In general, abdominoplasty is a very safe procedure especially if the patient is healthy and does not suffer from chronic diseases.
Post-surgery, you will be placed in a compression garment and elastic bands for at least 6 weeks to help reduce swelling, avoid fluid buildup, and support your abdomen.
Your doctor will also assign a list of detailed instructions to abide by during your healing process.
Post Treatment Protocol
To ensure a safe and healthy recovery, you should follow the below:
- Avoid lifting heavy objects for 3 – 4 weeks.
- Avoid physical exercise with stretches.
- Stay hydrated.
- Keep the circulation moving but doing slight movements.
- Take pain medication and apply topical or oral antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.
- Attend a follow-up session to monitor the healing process.
How long does it take to heal?
The healing process might be painful and ranges between 2 to 6 weeks. You might also feel uncomfortable and sore for at least 2 weeks due to the muscle tightening rather than the incision that will actually be numb for some time. Nevertheless, a mini tummy tuck’s recovery period is usually shorter.
In a week or two, you will be back on your feet with a slimmer abdomen and a firmer abdomen contour.
