What is Cosmelan®?
Cosmelan® is a professional depigmentation treatment designed to target dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. Whether it’s melasma, age spots, or sun-induced pigmentation, Cosmelan works effectively to lighten and eliminate these concerns. It not only reduces existing pigmentation but also prevents future formation by tackling melanin production at its source.
How does it work?
Cosmelan® works in two stages:
- In-Clinic Mask (Cosmelan 1):
Applied by a trained professional, this thick, yellowish mask contains active ingredients that work directly on melanin production and promote cellular turnover. The mask is left on for a few hours, depending on your skin type and the level of pigmentation.
- Home Care (Cosmelan 2):
After the in-clinic mask is washed off, you continue your treatment at home with Cosmelan 2, a maintenance cream. This cream helps lighten the skin further, prevents new pigmentation, and enhances results. It should be used daily as part of your skincare routine for several months.
- Melan recovery:
Balm with soothing and restoring effect for sensitive and reddened skin
- Mesoprotech melan 130 pigment control:
Very high sun protection tinted emulsion with SPF 50 for pigmentation skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
All you need to know about this treatment.
Yes! Cosmelan® targets all types of pigmentation spots caused by excessive melanin production. These include spots from hormonal changes, genetics, acne scars, post-waxing, and sun exposure. It’s effective for treating melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), age spots, freckles, and more.
Cosmelan® can be used year-round, but it’s ideal during cooler months when sun exposure is limited, such as autumn or winter. If you’re in a hot climate or using the treatment in summer, ensure you apply a strong sunscreen (SPF 50+) and avoid intense sun exposure.
The Cosmelan® method involves two phases: an intensive in-clinic treatment followed by home care. The entire process lasts around 6 months, depending on the severity of pigmentation.
Visible results often appear within a few weeks of the in-clinic mask, with spots fading and skin texture improving. However, it’s essential to continue the home treatment to address the root cause: melanin overproduction. Stopping early could cause spots to reappear.
If you skip the home care routine, you may not achieve the full benefits. The treatment helps regulate melanin production, and stopping can lead to the return of spots as the skin renews itself.
After the initial series, some people opt for maintenance treatments every 4–6 months, depending on their needs and hair health goals. It’s also essential to use the at-home spray provided as part of the treatment protocol to enhance and prolong the results.
It’s always best to consult with your provider for a customized plan based on your scalp and hair concerns!
Cosmelan® is non-invasive, so you can continue your regular activities. However, for the first few days after the in-clinic treatment, avoid swimming pools, excessive sweating, or prolonged sun exposure to allow your skin to adjust.
While Cosmelan® can effectively reduce pigmentation, the possibility of spots reappearing exists due to ongoing factors like hormonal changes or sun exposure. To maintain clear skin, it’s crucial to stick with daily depigmentation and sun protection routines.
Cosmelan® is a safe, non-invasive treatment with minimal side effects when used correctly. You may experience some irritation or redness initially, which is completely normal and should subside within a few days. During the home phase, mild peeling and sensitivity may occur, but these symptoms are temporary.
