Also Known as Gynecomastia
70% of all men will experience enlarged breast tissue at some point in their lives, that is either related to puberty, poor diet, and exercise.
Some men aren’t comfortable with this so they undergo gynecomastia surgery. This male breast reduction surgery removes excess fat in the chest as well as problematic glandular tissue in males. It can also reduce the size of the areolas and nipples.
The goal of the surgery is to make the chest flatter, firmer and more traditionally masculine.
What is Gynecomastia Surgery?
Gynecomastia or male reduction surgery reduces breast size in men, flattening and enhancing the chest contours. In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). In these cases, the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be reduced.
Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty.
Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly.
During your consultation with our licensed surgeons, you will be informed about the procedure’s protocol. In addition to that, our doctors have prepared a list of frequently asked questions to help cover everything pertaining to the surgery.
It is a one-day surgery, where a general anesthesia is applied.
Recovery
During your gynecomastia surgery recovery period, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage or support garment may be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals after surgery.
To encourage healthy healing and maintain good results you should adopt some lifestyle changes that may include:
- Eating healthy (fruits and vegetables)
- Reducing sugar consumption
- Doing cardiovascular exercises
- Avoiding hormonal supplements or steroids
- Refrain from smoking tobacco
The Outcome
The results are immediately visible and over time, the swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Your confidence will boost as your healing progresses. The final results of the male reduction surgery may take 3-6 months to achieve.
